Pumping Station Assistant

Reports to: Pumping Station Manager

1. Purpose of the Role

The Assistant Pump Engineer supports the Pump Engineering Manager in planning, executing, and monitoring maintenance activities to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of pumping systems and associated equipment. The role assists in preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance tasks as directed, and is also first point of contact for the work of the Grounds Maintenance Person to ensure external facilities around pumping stations and associated infrastructure are maintained to required standards.

2. Key Responsibilities

· Assist in scheduling and carrying out planned preventive maintenance (PPM) on pumps and related equipment.

· Support fault diagnosis, troubleshooting, and corrective maintenance under the guidance of the Pump Engineering Manager.

· Ensure proper use of tools, materials, and equipment.

· Maintain accurate maintenance logs, records, and reports.

· Assist in monitoring spare parts inventory and raising requisitions as required.

· Comply with all health, safety, and environmental regulations.

· Participate in site inspections, audits, and risk assessments.

· Support continuous improvement initiatives to increase pump reliability and reduce downtime.

· Provide technical support to maintenance teams and contractors.

· coordinate the work of the Grounds Maintenance Person, ensuring grounds, drainage, and access routes are maintained in safe and operational condition.

· Carry out any other duties assigned by the Pump Engineering Manager.

3. Deliverables

· Timely and accurate completion of assigned pump maintenance tasks.

· Up-to-date maintenance records and reports.

· Reduced equipment downtime and improved pump system reliability.

· Compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.

· Well-maintained external areas, grounds, and access routes associated with pumping infrastructure.

4. Working Relationships

· Reports directly to the Pump Engineering Manager.

· Works closely with pump technicians, operators, and contractors.

· Liaises with procurement, stores, and operations teams for spare parts and planning.
